And So It Goes…

Some have called him the Mark Twain of the 20th century. He wrote essays, short stories, novels, science fiction, screen plays. He was an artist, a commencement speaker, a writer of love letters. Some people find his work annoying; others are completely enamored. What can we learn from Indianapolis native son Kurt Vonnegut about what it is to be human and how to fully embrace this life we have been given? This 4-week series of classes begins with a video self portrait of Vonnegut talking about himself in 1975. Come engage in lively conversation with others from your Garden community. If you want to get started early, watch Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time, a 2022 documentary about Vonnegut’s life. Free with a Hulu subscription or for a slight charge on other streaming services.

Breaking Down Vonnegut

Vonnegut Museum CEO Julia Whitehead wrote Breaking Down Vonnegut, a book exploring essential themes in Vonnegut’s writings. Through her writing, Whitehead brings out the major life questions Vonnegut asked himself over and over. We will discuss the ideas and compare them to our own life questions. Copies of the book are available for $10 at The Garden, but you do not have to read the book to participate.
