Meet the Staff
Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes
Reverend Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes is the lead pastor and spiritual leader for The Garden Community Church, and is excited to lead The Garden into the future. Prior to pastoring at The Garden, Carolyn had been the Lead Pastor at Avon Christian Church.
Although there’s no such thing as a typical week at The Garden, Carolyn is passionately steadfast about her pastoral role and serving the community. Along with overseeing operations, regular staff meetings, and preparing for Sunday’s services, she also spends several hours per week mentoring in Wayne Township, and facilitating community outreach programs.
Carolyn serves on The Garden’s Leadership, Outreach, and Human Resources teams. She is also a member of the Executive Committee at Christian Theological Seminary.
Graduating with a Masters of Divinity from the Christian Theological Seminary in 1997, Carolyn was ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1998. In 2005, she graduated with a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.
Seeking professional growth and leadership opportunities, Jilliane Pruiett brought her “behind-the-scenes” church administrative background, “can-do” personality, and extensive organizational skills to The Garden in January of 2017, as our business administrator.
As the business administrator Jilliane is the staff lead, also known as the “glue,” for The Garden’s business operations. She is responsible for payroll, invoices, cutting checks, bookkeeping, database interface, taxes, communications like eNews and the Sunday bulletin, and whatever else needs to get done.

Director of Creative Arts
So, have you ever wanted to be in a rock and roll band? Well, Rhonda Baker, Creative / Music Director for The Garden has been living that dream for almost her entire life. She joined the staff of The Garden in April of 2016, where she’s the connector for Sunday services, as well as the coordinator for music, musicians, videos and guest speakers. She plays a big role in the success of Garden’s Sunday program.

Being a photographer, a special holiday project for The Garden introduced Phil to Carolyn and to our community; and, he’s been involved ever since as a part of our support staff as a part-time Administrative Assistant. In his role, Phil is involved in tracking contributions, assisting with bookkeeping and banking activities, supporting Carolyn, Jilliane, and hospitality needs, and coordinating Garden communications, from eNews and the Sunday program, to slide preparation, video editing, and design. Of course, he also maintains The Garden’s database. Community Development Leader
Trevor Farmer has joined the staff as our new Community Development intern. Trevor grew up in Avon and pursued Religious Studies at IUPUI. He was actively involved in Crusade for Christ and Campus Outreach. After graduation in 2011, he took a position at Calvary UMC in Brownsburg as a youth pastor. He served for three years in this capacity, in support of Wayne Township Schools working with children with educational disorders. After this time, his wife Megan reminded him of his commitment to pursue the seminary. In his Connections role, he will identify and facilitate connecting Gardeners in fellowship and welcome new people into The Garden. He would like to encourage Gardeners “to see theology and God’s word by reading between the lines.” Trevor believes that each of us have a choice: to accept other’s definitions of ourselves or to make our own path with God’s guidance.
As House Manager for The Garden, Kathy coordinates Sunday morning staff and volunteer activities in support of Gardeners and guests, orders and stocks supplies, and contributes to the weekly newsletter as her primary activities. Kathy has been with The Garden for, in her words, “Oh my, more than ten years!”
What drew her to The Garden? She says, “Ahh, the people!” Kathy appreciates that The Garden is not a traditional ministry and service; the congregation is presented with a meaningful charge to make a better community of faith and a better world. Assistant House Manager
Dave helps welcome you to the Garden almost every Sunday. As Assistant House Manager, Dave assists with coordination of volunteers, greets attendees, and manages the signage placed every weekend, all to help you have a wonderful experience.
