From A Distance
Bible Text: Matthew 5: 4 | Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes | The Garden’s Big Give this quarter is with The Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home. The Garden will help support the development of a Grief Garden in the chapel yard. Let’s take a moment and consider all these children who have lost someone in their short lives. Not only are they in a position where they have been separated from the only life they have known, but those losses are multilayered. These kids have been moved away from family, community connections, school life, teachers, familiar schedules, and all those elements of life that we so often take for granted.
One way we might be able to identify with the kids right now is we too now know the strange feelings that come when we have to step into a new normal, accepting a new way of being and grieving what has been. On Sunday we will look at what it means to grieve not only the loss of loved ones but a way of life and consider how we can turn to our faith to help us when words fail us in figuring out just how to deal with life “From a Distance.”
