I Love You When
Bible Text: Proverbs 4:1-4 | Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes | This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first publishing of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habitats of Highly Effective People. In honor of this anniversary, Covey’s son Sean shared how his father applied the practices as a way of life. Sean was one of 9 children in the Covey family and he was raised in such a way that his Father made his children feel as though they were the most important people in the world. He accomplished this through his focus on being Dad. On his ride home from work every day he would make the intentional decision to once again commit to parenting to the best of his ability. Covey believed the wisest way to use your drive time home from work was to make the decision to once again adopt your children. Be a dad. Mentally go through the process of taking off the work hat and putting on the father hat. Mentally go through the process, for whatever it means in your life, of resigning from work and volunteering to be a father. This served Covey in ways that not only was he a great father and Grandfather but his children have gone on to have large families and successful careers.
Join us Sunday, as we celebrate Father’s Day and consider how we can all live in ways where we focus on putting on our Dad hats; so children know just how much we love them.
