Inspired By Spirit

Passage: Spirit John 3:1 - 17
Service Type:

Bible Text: Spirit John 3:1 – 17 | Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes | We are using Rachel Held Evan’s book and study called “Inspired” to help guide us through the Lenten journey this year. Rachel like so many of us grew up with a particular understanding of the Bible that allowed faithful readers to use the Bible as a tool to condemnation and justify harmful behavior like racism and bigotry. Yet as she grew she came to realize the Bible though divinely inspired is a human document and needs to be interpreted and reinterpreted throughout time. The Bible can only function as the living word of God if the stories and the problems that come with those stories are hashed out in a modern context. Over Lent, we are going to look at different bible stories with new eyes and 21st-century interpretation and together seek to be Inspired to hear the story yet again!

This week we will look at what it means to be Born Again!
