Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:27-31 The Message (MSG)
Service Type:

Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 1:27-31 The Message (MSG) | Speaker: Rev. Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes | Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico’s defeat of the French at the Battle of Puebla fought on May 5, 1862.  This was a big deal because it appeared that Mexico didn’t have a chance. They were outmanned, outgunned and the chances of victory were slim to nothing.  But surprisingly the small town army overcame the odds to defeat the French forces.  Throughout the Bible, we are witness to these kinds of unlikely victories.   There was the boy David who conquered the giant Goliath, Joshua in Jericho and of course Jesus who conquered death through resurrection.  These are the stories of those improbable victors, those who appear weaker but in the end prevail, overcoming the odds.

On Sunday we will consider difficult situations we all face in life when it looks like all is lost and we are surprised by a victory.
