The Serenity Prayer is one of the most widely known prayers in existence. It was written and published by Reinhold Niebuhr in 1937, spread via church groups and sermons in the late 1930s and 1940s, and was adopted and popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous in the early 1950s.
A number of years ago, the power grid went down in New York City and "The City That Never Sleeps" ended up powerless. First, people panicked; fearful the outage was a sign of some bigger plot of terrorism. Eventually, when the lights did not come back on, they realized they had to take measures to deal with the situation as best they could.
