Indigenous Peoples' Celebration

Honoring Indigenous Voices

Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the histories, cultures, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples and their ancestors who lived on the land now known as North America. These communities thrived for thousands of years before the first European explorers arrived. Several prominent Native American nations, including the Miami, Shawnee, and Illinois, lived in Indiana.

On Sunday, we will look more closely at what we can learn from our native brothers and sisters and their relationship with the earth, creation, one another, and the spirit. Their deep connection to the land and respect for all living things offer valuable lessons for us today. Join us for stories and lessons from the indigenous voices of Indiana, as we celebrate their enduring legacy and wisdom.

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

Grandfather,

Look at our brokenness.

We know that in all creation only the human family has strayed from the Sacred Way.

We know that we are the ones who are divided and we are the ones who must come back together to walk the Sacred Way.

Grandfather, Sacred One, teach us love, compassion, and honor that we may heal the earth and heal each other.

–Ojibway prayer.
