Our Beloved Community

Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Matter

Inclusive communities are essential to fostering environments where all individuals can thrive. They create space where people from various backgrounds feel valued and understood. When we value and foster diversity, we more create stronger, more resilient communities. Diversity enriches communities by expanding collective perspectives, leading robust and creative solutions to challenges. Embracing diversity fosters mutual respect, understanding, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. referred to this as the “Beloved Community," a concept rooted in the biblical notion of agape love. Some see it as a foretaste of the Kingdom of God, where love, justice, and peace reign, where all people learn to live in harmony with one another and God. King espoused this vision, seeking to create a society where God’s will is done on Earth as it is in heaven.

This Sunday, our topic will be Our Beloved Community. What are some of the features of such a place and how can each of us play a part right now? Questions asked and answered as we gather together again. Be kind to yourself. Love to all.
