THE GARDEN presents
The Word is Old Now

a new play by Paige Scott

directed by Josiah McCruiston

Saturday, May 14 at 6 p.m.

The Great Room at Union Chapel
2720 E 86th Street, Indianapolis

A group of young adults reunite in a church meeting room for a pitch-in meal to remember a friend who has recently passed. But the church does not feel like a welcoming, safe space to all of them, bringing old hurts and unspoken grievances to the surface. The play explores themes of inclusivity, acceptance, and the lasting emotional consequences that can arise when one feels betrayed by a community they once loved.

The Garden has commissioned this new play by Indiana playwright, Paige Scott. Much of its inspiration came from The Generation Project, a series of honest, frank, vulnerable and respectful evening conversation sessions hosted by The Garden with a small group of young and older LGBTQIA+* adults in Indianapolis this past March.

Please note: Since the play is set at a pitch-in meal gathering, all audience members are invited to bring a favorite dish to share.

This play and The Generation Project that inspired it were made possible through a grant from the Center for Congregations.

*LGBTQIA+ is an inclusive term that includes people of all genders and sexualities, such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual, and allies. While each letter in LGBTQIA+ stands for a specific group of people, the term encompasses the entire spectrum of gender fluidity and sexual identities.
