EYA Grant to Fund New Theatre Piece

Matthew Vire • February 17, 2022

EYA Grant Update:

The Garden will invest remaining funds from the Engaging Young Adults (EYA) grant in a collaborative creative project culminating in the performance of a new piece of theatre in late April. Participants will gather several times in March for conversations, story-sharing, and games. We will consider and discuss how a faith community can impact young adult lives and explore issues of prejudice, gender identity, gender roles, the significance of pronoun preferences, and sexual orientation among others. The ideas, stories, and interactions in these activities will provide content and inspiration for a new play to be written by local playwright, Paige Scott. Then in April, it will be staged for a public performance. Adults of all ages are invited to take part in the experience and process. No theatre experience is required and not all who participate will be in the performance. For more information, email matthew@thegardenonline.org.

Let's Embark on an Adventure
By Betty Brandt March 12, 2025
A poignant blog post by Betty Brandt reflecting on a poem her father, James M. Buck, wrote to her in 1944 while stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, during World War II. Betty shares her father’s love for poetry, his role as a unit scribe in Patton’s Army, and the heartfelt stories of camaraderie and survival among his fellow soldiers. Interweaving themes of love, storytelling, and faith, this post encourages readers to cherish and share their own family stories, creating connections filled with healing and sacred moments.
